Herringbone Subway
Glossy ceramic
The subway tile format was patented in 1904 for the New York City underground — 75×300 mm glazed rectangles that would stay hygienic under a century of foot traffic. Laid in herringbone, they gain a dynamic movement that offsets the tile's utilitarian roots.
